VACANCY - MUSICAL DIRECTOR

The Carpathians is looking for a new Musical Director to join us.  The Carpathians is a non-traditional ‘Little Big Band’ - we have developed a unique style and sound which, in combination with our relaxed, friendly atmosphere defines the band. We rehearse on Thursday evenings in the village of Little Milton in south Oxfordshire and play a wide and varied selection of music, from Latin and Swing to Pop and Jazz standards. Always popular with an audience that likes to dance, we typically perform around 6 times a year at functions, weddings, parties and community social events in and around the county.

The band features 16 excellent core musicians, including two excellent vocalists, flautists and an additional percussionist, giving us the unique sound that we are keen to maintain. We have a varied repertoire, including many custom arrangements, which we would like to continue to develop.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Musical Director to inspire and further develop the band and to help us continue to raise our standards. We aim to continually attract even better performance opportunities as we hone our skills and develop our reputation in the area.

The Musical Director will work alongside the band manager and will take the lead in musical matters, including programme selection and will be asked to support recruitment of new band members and deputies as required. A bright personality able to engage well with audiences would also be a bonus. Skill in musical arrangement is preferable, although not essential.
